Default 1st 2nd gear whine

I recently purchased a 1999 S2000 with 67000 miles. Thanks to people on this forum I have already established that I have a noisy clutch. Anyway, I have been driving the car quite a bit and in doing so have noticed a couple of other things. Firstly, there seems to be a slight whine in both first and second gear on acceleration. Secondly, third gear is notchy when engaging, however, I find that I can smoothly change in to third if I pull the gear stick back to forth a little before engaging third. Is this normal or is my transmission on its way out? Thanks in advance for your input.

I haven't changed any fluids as yet. However, I did get the dealer who sold me the car to check/top-up the transmission oil since hearing this, but it hasn't made any difference. I am planning on doing the fluids, I'm just waiting on the outcome of the clutch replacement(diagnosed in another thread). Noise is on acceleration, nothing on deceleration.

Mine is the same way too. Its a 2005 though. 1st gear sounds a little louder then the rest.I havnt determined yet if thats the way they are normally or if some bearings are going out. I recently purchased my vehicle at 22k miles on it. My second is kinda notchy when cold, but smooths out when warm. Weird thing i noticed though, third gets kinda knotchy when warm, but it shifts fine when cold....

Interesting to know at least one person has the same problem. Spoke to the dealer today, I asked him if he filled the transmission with the correct oil when he had it back to check/top it up, he said "No.......probably not". So I'm going to change the oil in the Transmission and diff this weekend for the correct stuff. He's also said he'll supply the parts FOC to replace the clutch, so I need to identify if I have a problem with the transmission before hand so I can look at it when it's off if I need to.

that tech is probably pulling your leg.. I never understood why people took their car to the dealer, they are just a bunch of crooks and most of the techs dont know their ass from a hole in the ground trust me..

Update: I changed the diff and transmission oil today, using Castrol Syntrax 75W90(Honda recommened)for the diff and Honda MTF 3 for the trasmission. The 1st and 2nd gear whine doesn't appear to have improved. However, the notchy 3rd gear seems to be gone, I need to do a few more miles before I can be completely sure but it looks good at the moment. I'm hoping the whine may improve once the oil has had time to work round, but if not I can live with it, it's not too bad.

How did your diff like the castrol syntrax limited slip 75w-90? I am thinking of using it in my 2006 S.

It's still in there and I've not experienced any problems.
