Wow, i guess it's titanium related, cause I use to throw flames and backfire from time to time with my WRX and I my exhaust was just fine. It was a HKS exhaust.

How are you shifting at 9xxx RPMs? The OEM rev limitter is at 8900 RPMs.

I blew mine out shifting at 9500 rpm where the rev limiter was set on the AEM.

I'm going to put the cat back on to avoid the backfires.

it has to be the "the red light is flashing, i'm above 9k" train of thought.

I don't get the red limiter to light up. I shift it right @ 9xxx, no red light up when it happened.

The tachometer LIES! A stock S2000 will not do 9000 RPMs. If the engine revs up to redline, the top part of the tachometer will blink just before the ECU shuts it down. The easiest / safest way to demonstrate this is to keep the pedal to the floor in 3rd on the highway until the rev limitter kicks in.
