Hey Moderator !!! The member S2SaV from Frisco, CA asked
about gas mileage, I threw in my 2 cents worth of advice.

Now the entire "thread" has turned to discussing my driving habits, not the question asked. Hummmm. I thought we were suppose to all respond to the question with different ideas on his problem.

Oh well, it's ok to pick on me. I'm wrong to take care of my car and drive it the way I want. It should be taken away from me .

This whole thread isn't very technical in nature and has been discussed countless times before in Car Talk. Gas mileage on the S2K seemed for the most part to be dependent on your right foot. But if this is your daily driver I would ask if you are stuck in stop and go traffic during your trips.

Yeah, Marvin you drive too slow . Haha. But really, I drive half city and half highway. Once 180 miles hit the damn fuel indicator lights up. I am absolutely sick of it. I miss the mileage I used to get. Aaargghhh! Anyways, Marvin you still drive to slow . Latez!

Try driving it like a race car. If your gas mileage drops below 9-10mpg, then you have a problem. I get about 19mpg around town.

Should I feel lucky? I get 250-280 miles before the light comes on, and can squeeze out 330-340 before I get too chicken to go further, but only once put in 12 gal.

I regularly get 22-24mpg with hard driving, and up into the 30's when keeping my foot out of it.

Less filling, good taste; It all depends on what you want. Good performance and decent mileage, as the Stook so ably demonstrates, is not mutually exclusive. Remember, you usually get what you pay for.

I used to consistently get 210 on one tank (granted I drive a little more after the light comes on) and replaced my spark plugs at 5000 to denso iridiums (IK22). I have since been able to go to 240 between refills -- typically 10.5 to 11 gallons. (Disclaimer: I have only filled up twice since replacing so not a lot of history yet...but I am on currently on track with my third tank) Now that's almost a 15% improvement in mileage per tank. I don't drive differently and have made no other changes to the car. I drive normal, meaning not like an old man and not like the immature kids. I enjoy the car in the open road. Don't know how or care why it works, only that it does...

Even taking a more conservative 10% improvement, 21 more miles saves me from buying an extra gallon...depending on where you live it will save you $1.75-$2.00 per tank. It cost me $40 to buy 4 plugs so in about 20+ fillups, you will get your money back (less than oil change interval). 30+ fillups if you have someone else install them for you.

No real noticeable power improvements though so in my opinion more hype than reality here, but only cared about the mileage improvements.

just my 2
