Also during the winter the gas is oxygenated (or whatever it's called) for the sub-freezing temps. That causes your mileage and power to suffer. Granted, this is only true if you live in a northern state, as I do.
Also, with regards to synthetic oils, I couldn't agree more. However, look into Royal Purple. As far as transmission and differential oils go, that's the bee's knees, as they say.

I noticed you just switched to a k&n filter - maybe you have been enjoying the new sounds from under the hood
Don't forget other obvious culprits like low tire pressure or worn out spark plugs (I just changed mine out at 50k just because).

Adjust the valves. There was a thread about doing this yourself, and IIRC there was a meet where people were showing others how to do this also.
Gernby has reported that his fuel economy was improved by doing this.
