18 mpg?!?! just got the car

lol my gas light came on and i put in 9.5 gallons. =/
i usually get about 270ish to a tank, and put in about 10.3 gallons. having said that, its about 60% street and 40% highway. on a regular basis i prolly shift in between 3k to 3.5k through the gears and try not to modulate the throttle too much. put the top up on highways if you're really trying to get better mpg. lowest i've ever gotten was 22mpg, and that included alot of canyon driving and so forth.
like the others said, get all the fluids changed and try it again=]

This car has a pretty steep learning curve.... once you get the feel for the natural shift points, your mileage will go way up. I got under 20 for my first month or two... then leveled out at 25 after I had the car for a while. Now I'm back down to 20 with all the mods.

I don't think changing all your fluids will help mpg, but OC is totally correct on that. I was the same way.
Changing the fluids gave me some learning on my car, let alone piece of mind.

270/10.3 = 26.21 mpg.

18 mpg does seem a little low. I know there's a direct linear correlation between your driving style and gas mileage. But if your getting 18 mpg, that would indicate you love to run the car hard....But that doesn't seem to be the case. I highly recomend that you change out all the drivetrain oils and replace them with high grade full synthetic oils. It will help preserve the cars running gear and reduce the friciton coefficient. Overall, it should help slightly with gas mileage. It did in fact give me an extra 11 total miles per tank of gas when I first changed mine. My car is a daily driver, I do a lot of 10-15 mile freeway trips....But i also mix it up with semi-casual canyon runs about 3 times a week. All in all, I've been consistantly averaging 265 miles / 10.6 gallons or 25.0 mpg
