Thats why he changed the retainers. It's been said that they are the weakpoint of our valvetrain. If something is going to snap, they go first.

I'm guessing that it is possible to slightly damage a value (there may be no such thing as a slight contact with a piston ). In other engines, I've seen broken valves without obvious damage to the retainers.

remember my car has ran great for 2 months, I think if there was valve damage I would know dont you?

I was under the impression that with a zero tolerence motor like ours (11.1 compression) any valve damage would be noticed, again I am not sure though

I believe you are right. If you caught it before the retainers cracked and dropped a valve, you did good!

If it's good after a couple of months you're probably fine. A good spark plug check would confirm it.

that is what I was going to do next, if all the spark plugs are clean of oil what does that actually mean?

If all the plugs look about the same, then there's no valve damage.

A long time ago, there was a spark plug faq/post becauue some owners discovered one cyl was runing rich. It had some good pictures. Let me see if I can find it.
