I got 102K miles out of the stock clutch. This was with 6 psi SCed, autoXs, track days etc. The stock clutch disk is awesome for what it is.

You can't tell by feel what condition a clutch is in. Either it's holding or it's not. Once it starts slipping, replace it. In reality, unless you hold on to your car until it has well over 200k miles, whether you change it now or later doesn't make any difference $ wise. However, if you sell it later the potential buyers will take in to account the number of miles on the clutch.

For example, if you replace it now and sell it with 180k miles, most buyers will probably consider the clutch on its last leg no matter what you say. If the clutch actually lasts until 150k miles, then any potential buyer at 180k is going to consider the clutch fairly new and perhaps offer you a better price comparitively speaking. So no matter how you look at it since a clutch rarely completely fails all at once, it's better to just wait until it starts slipping unless you are planning a long trip anytime soon.

Balance the economics against the peace of mind and come to your own conclusion.

Thanks for the advice guys. I don't plan to ever sell the S2000...so I have no worries or plans for resale. It's more of a peace of mind thing. I appreciate you guys taking the time to post some advice.

On my previous car, I started buying stuff that I wanted to change on it, one day I totalled the car and had my garage full of parts that never got put on the car plus all the parts I had on the car that I took off before I got rid of it. Now I don't buy anything unless it needs replacing inmediately.

I've never had a clutch just fail completely. It starts to slip before it goes boom. Of course, how long it'll slip before failing is another story... I'm guessing you've not got terribly much surface left on your friction disc, even if it IS grabbing fine now.

I'm with the group that says "don't change it til' it begins to slip".
Since you have no plans to sell the car and know this car will stay in your possesion, you might go ahead and purchase the new clutch and parts and shelve them until needed.
Not that this is absolutly necessary either, but it could save you a couple of days waiting on parts later.

Just rev the crap out of it and release the clutch suuuper sloooowly.

That should do it. Okay, okay I kid. Look I got 84k out of mine and when it went it slipped under anymore than 1/2 throttle for about 2 weeks or more. The longer I waited, the more gentle I needed to be under acceleration before it slipped. Made a neat (pukey) smell too

Your results WILL vary. Clutch wear has waaaaay too many variables. 20k - 200k life expectancy in both extremes.

I'd wait. You'll still have time to react (order & ship parts) when the time comes that it starts to go.

Airgate, when it starts slipping, find yourself a buddy with a lift and plenty of experience doing this PITA job. Swap rides with him for a weekend and leave some cash in the cup holder.
