Hey guys, down here in Laredo the "warm" season is just getting started, 103 today and more to come.
I'll be doing the first oil change in my car soon and was wondering if, given the brutal heat in which I drive (mostly highway though) I should use a "heavier" weight oil than 10W30. (Dino oil still, of course).
Any opinions welcome.

NO...you should use 10W30 all year around. The F20C has such tight tolerances that using a 50 weight oil might actually reduce lubrication rather than do any good. Also, expect reduced fuel economy and reduction in HP......good luck

103! Glad I'm not there. We still got about a month or so before we get that treat along with HIGH humidity. Definately not top down weather. 10w-30 all year round and you will be just fine.

Personally, I believe that the benefit of viscosity stability in a synthetic oil, especially at those kind of extreme temperatures, far exceeds any benefit of continuing to use non-synth for an extended break in period.

Hi Gernby. It's new and it's got only 2000 miles. But I do fairly long (500 miles) "commutes" into Mexico on the weekends. So I'll reach 3750 Miles in no time.
I'm aware of the need to wait for at least 7000 miles before the switch to synthethic, and I agree with the arguments explaining such a need (which are backed up by Honda if memory serves)
Thanks for your interest.
Daniel
PS: I WILL be doing the differential oil change (To Mobil 1 75W90 synthethic gear oil) this weekend, as I've been told by many members of this board that it's worth doing, even this early in the game. I'll keep you posted on how it looked. (Haven't abused the car at all, so we'll see how it looks).

Hey Tugz, I noticed your 350Z emblem. What's up w/ that? I test drove one before I bought my S since I loved the car. Driving it was very disappointing; it felt like a fast Ford Taurus, kind of like an old SHO but less fun. Plus that cheap Nissan interior is very unappealing.
