Default 10 Year + owner... new problems

Hi all,

I noticed that when I start my car in the morning it would start up fine but when it's idling I would shake a little.

Driving wise the engine temp will be at 3 bars and I would be in 3rd gear at 2.5k-3k rpm and it would bog when it shouldn't. Today my check engine light came on...

Car has never been abused - I'm going to check the codes from the OBD scanner and go from there. To me it looks like coil or spark plugs.

Another issue that I am having is with the steering wheel. On cold starts the steering wheel is very heavy and feels notchy. This problem goes away once the car warms up but i wanted to see if this is normal.

BTW this is my first car and I'm keeping it forever.

Thanks!

When the weather changes, it can throw the ECU - if the car is bogging while idling but comes back it may be that. Otherwise, try the MAP whack technique, especially if the car just seems to stumble when revving the engine.

Get the codes first. Its a fuel injected car from this century. It shouldn't care that its cooler out. If you've had it for 10 years, you probably know what "normal" feels like. Does it feel normal?

Agreed. Check the cel. Could be a coil pack from the sounds of it, yes.

So I checked the code and it's a misfire on cylinder 2 and 3.

I bought ngk spark plugs and I have one coil on hand. Going to work on the car this morning.

Finished replacing plugs and coil cylinder 2. The light went away and the car drives fine.

How many miles are on your car. Mine is at 150k with the original coils. It's one of those things on my list to buy a spare of, but other things have been more important to work on.

Coil packs can last a lot longer than you'd expect. I have 338,000 miles on my '03 with the original coil packs. I bought spares, thinking I will need them soon and they're just collecting dust.
