what RPM are you shifting at ?...

I just got my 01 AP1 last week and noticed that it shifts very smooth above 3500 RPM.... and you must be sure to depress the pedal completely too...

Try to move your seat forward to ensure that you are depressing the pedal 100%...

Hope this helps.. .

I'm going to resurrect an old thread; pran76 did the notchiness go away after the break-in period?

I just picked up a new 07 GPW and have the same notchiness from 1-2, 4-5 and going into reverse. I only have 200 miles on the odo right now so trying to see if I should bring it in or break it in.
I was being anal and brought my car into the dealer over the weekend to get it checked out. I have a hunch that this is normal S2000 behavior but I wanted to bring it in anyway so if I had problems down the road, it would be documented.

The tech who drove my car admitted that there aren't that many S2000's that come in for service but from what he could tell it seemed like my tranny was normal but with a little bit of roughness. Since I was still breaking my car in, he told me to come back when I had 1,000-1,500 miles on the odometer.

As I mentioned though, based on everyone's responses it seems like this is normal S2000 shifting so I probably won't bring it back in unless I have more problems. Thought I'd give everyone an update.

Just leave it in Drive.

Switching out the tranny fluid & the rear diff at 3.5K miles really helped mine, no more "notchiness". Used the new HONDA MTF & Mobil1 75w90 diff fluid.

Change your fluid right away, after a few miles all the metal shavings get into the fluid from it breaking in.

Yeah, I'm planning on changing the tranny and diff fluid at 1,000 miles and putting in magnetic plugs while I'm at it.

I'm going to leave the factory fill engine oil in until the recommended change interval though since it has special additives to help with the break-in process.

I've noticed the notchyness when only the tranny is cold, other than

that I think the tranny is fine with my06. Just my 02.

They're already magnetic from the factory

Oh, I didn't know that! Are all 3 of the plugs (oil, transmission, and differential) all magnetic stock?

I know the diff drain is for sure and I think the tranny drain is as well, the engine oil is not.
