I'm going to resurrect an old thread; pran76 did the notchiness go away after the break-in period?

I just picked up a new 07 GPW and have the same notchiness from 1-2, 4-5 and going into reverse. I only have 200 miles on the odo right now so trying to see if I should bring it in or break it in.

I have an 04 and i have this issue when it's cold. but i was advised by a friend that i should press the clutch and put it in all gears several times before i start driving; this will lube the synchros. so basically i engage the clutch and put the gear in first, the disengage and engage to second, etc. repeat this about twice, especially for second gear twice and then drive. ever since i started doing this, i've only had one instance where it made the crunch/grind noise to the second gear.

when new my 2004 had this as well...not bad, but noticeable, especially when cold. after about 10,000 miles it was gone...now and then, there is a clunk sound when shifting into 1st at a stop sign and a slight grind when 1-2 when first starting out..but all this appears normal and i have no issues with the best gearbox known to man after over 30,000 miles.

I had this issue too when my '06 was new, especially when it was cold. After a couple of thousand miles, it smoothed right out.

Thanks for everyone's responses. Good to know that this is normal S2000 behavior so I can stop being paranoid now.

Finally to reply. The notchiness is not gone, but certainly its smoother now. I used to hear a nice loud thunk that accompanied the notchiness but thats gone completely, and without the sound, I would not have cared - thats what got me paranoid.

I find that the higher i rev, the smoother it gets, and slow shifts seem to be notchy. You'll stop paying attention after a while, once you realize that its normal. I did.

Hi Everyone,

Just picked up my s2K about a week ago and have read the numerous threads on the 1->2nd gear issues(grind/notchiness etc).

Anyone with the 07 s2000 noticed this? I have this and this bugs me. I'm going to try to go in and drive another 06 s2K they have as a demo to see whether its in that car or whether its limited to mine.

I have to wait more than 1 sec before shifting into 2nd before it slides right in, otherwise I have a nice little thunk that accompanies the gear change only from 1->2...
smooth as silk here. but what do i know - i drove a rsx-s for 5.5 years - a ficking meat grider for the first 80k miles, she smoothed out a little after about 100k..

My 07 had a notchy feel in the 1-2 and 2-3 shift when new. At 3000 miles it has improved and I have learned the feel of the shifter. It seems that the S2000 has a box that doesn't like to be rushed. A slight hesitation mid-gate and it works fine.

It's not much different than my 91 NSX.
