1->2nd gear notchiness for 07 s2K
Hi Everyone,
Just picked up my s2K about a week ago and have read the numerous threads on the 1->2nd gear issues(grind/notchiness etc).
Anyone with the 07 s2000 noticed this? I have this and this bugs me. I'm going to try to go in and drive another 06 s2K they have as a demo to see whether its in that car or whether its limited to mine.
I have to wait more than 1 sec before shifting into 2nd before it slides right in, otherwise I have a nice little thunk that accompanies the gear change only from 1->2...

when i first bought my 06, i had this, i actually grinded 1-2 a couple times in the first week of ownership. i'm not sure if this is from coming from an ap1 or maybe a break in thing. all i can say, is that you'll get better at shifting it, the s2k is a very notchy car...all years, from 00-07.

I dont ever remember feeling it in the other S2k's I drove.
I realise that this car is different, but my question was more in relation to whether there was a problem with the AP2 gearboxes as the problem with the AP1 gearbox is documented.
Was hoping to hear not about the grind, but specifically notchiness only in 1->2.

1->2 and 2->3 notchiness when the gear box is cold is normal for all year S2000s. I've owned an AP1 and AP2 and driven several s2000s and all of the cars behave the same way. Yours might be a little more pronounced since the car is brand new. Let the car break in and if you still experience the problem when the car is all warmed up, then you might want to go visit a dealership. Until then, I wouldn't worry about it.

when i first got my used 02 last month, i had the same concern. but after a month of getting a good feel for the shift gate its fine. i found that if you apply a little presure on one side or the other, or shift straight up in certain gears it gets rid of the grind/notchy feeling. i also had the same situation with my rsx type s, just took a little while to get a good feel for the gates.

after the trans warms up it is a lil better and after a few thousand miles
your 07 prob has the NEW Honda trans fluid? 10k miles change out the fluid
search up on Trans fluid option
Diff fluid options
Engine oil options
everyone does a little something different and different opinions

When the AP2 appeared, there was an occasional problem affecting all MY04s and most of the MY05s of popping out of gear related to trans tolerances being at maximum; the TSB fix was a replacement of the 2nd gear set. I would expect that the MY06 and MY07 incorporate the revised tolerances. I had the TSB done and one side benefit that myself and others have noticed is that the "thunk" going into 2nd is gone except for the first "cold" shift of the day.
I would expect that with the proper tolerances, the addition of the new Honda MTF, and a period of wear-in, the issue will gradually disappear for MY07 owners.

I went in to the dealership to test drive the pre-owned 06 there and even though it was greatly reduced, I could still feel the "thunk". I must not be used to the triple syncro feel of the 1->2 shift.
As suggested I will wait out the break in period patiently.
