it is carbon something, but not carbon FIBER.

i do not like gm syncromesh fm, it doesn't last long before it gets notchy again.

the NEW honda MTF is the best so far, for me.
Ok i'll take your word for it because i'm not confident enough in this particular syncro area.

I have used Red Line in the rear end and trans for the last few times. I believe it saved my rear end as it was really groaning bad for some time, shorty after each Honda fluid change. I thought it was going to go on me. After a trip to Portland I could feel it pulsing and serging like it was over heated, once I got into town and cruised around at slow speed. I thought for sure it was done after this. But the next day drove home ok and had the fluid changed with redline and haven't had an issue since. That was about 2 years ago. Haven't really noticed much improvement in the trans grind or notchyness with the Redline. I'm about do for another change, but I still have a notchy feeling trans when up to full temp too. I'm sure some of this wil smooth out a bit once I change the fluid, but I'm ready to try something else for the trans. I've heard allot of good feadback from the GM Syncro mesh so i may give this a go.

Did Honda make a formula revision in their oils fairly resent? For some reason i am getting the impression they have improved the formula and are getting better results in the S now. Anyone know about this?

well...NEW honda MTF means its a new and different trans fluid...i would say about 4 times better than the old MTF. i've used the old honda mtf, redline, gmsfm, and the new honda mtf is the best.

Oh so there is a new updated fluid! I thought I must have heard something about this floating around somewhere. Well I may have to give Honda another chance then.

Sure it would be bennificial but doesn't mean they did it. Though Honda engineers are great, they have done some things that don't make sense the first time around, until they figure it out. There is quite a few changes through the years. Keeping the syncro number limited in the shift from first to second at such a gear reduction/trq multiplication at 9000rpm is a safe measure they put in place to save the rest of the car and warrenty work, that would make sense too.
No more assuming, straight facts:

Triple syncro cones on second gear to reduce shift load.

There's a honda site that goes into more detail about the amount of cones but it's not opening up for me so I posted the above.

Here is a detailed press release by honda on the 2004. It uses Carbon syncro's and brass for reverse. The site below will also confirm the transmission gear changes from AP1 to AP2

See I'm reading about how this grind happens under "spirited" driving. This is not the case for me, however.

I rarely, however sometimes get a slight grind 1st to 2nd, a significant 2nd to 3rd (this is the one that kills my soul), and a small to minute one from 4th to 5th. This is all under normal driving, I have not had a problem under spirited acceleration (although the cdv is starting to really piss me off) with a gear grind.

I just chalked this up to needing to replace the trans fluid with something like GM synchromesh which i plan to do VERY VERY soon, along with the diff fluid.

2 questions I have, is GM synchromesh okay to use with our trans, and what do you guys recommend to use for the diff? I've hear and I think it was stated earlier in this thread that Mobil 1 75w90 is good to use, however your opinions would help me greatly.
