I was grinding gears on the 1-2 shift every now and then, but I started holding the shift knob around the sides rather than over the top and this helped tremendously.

Honda did a poor move and incorporated only two syncros in second gear and 3 in the rest. Thats why it is prone to grinding. They wanted the shifting to slow down from first to second as to help eliviate the stress on the weak drivetrain components when in high revving fast shifts. Some are touchier then others. Mine included, but by no means is this a sign of the tranny failing or ready to blow up. Its just poor judgment in design. The Ap2 made changes which included stronger revisited drivetrain and carbon fiber syncros with a CDV. No grinding problem with these and less drivetrain strain.

Not necessarily. My 2005 grinds on the 1-2 when I accellerate hard and try to shift quickly. It may just be my timings off, but I've driven manual transmissions for over 20 years now and have never had this problem.

You guys should try gm synchro mesh tranny fluid. I have put them in cars that start to grind. After a week of driving in most cases it goes away. The key is to address the issue before it causes permanent damage to the synchros. Also another thing to think about is the clutch. If the pressure plate is wearing out it loses pressure over time. Example: Even if you are depressing the clutch pedal all the way it may not be fully disengaging causing excessive wear on the synchros which over time causes grinding during a gear change. Hope this helps.

All the best,
Max-

I've heard the sincro mesh spoken about quite a bit as an aid, i'll have to make it a point to try this on my next change. Thanks for the info on everything.

Your welcome! We ran this oil in our 10.0 sec turbo dc2 for 3 seasons. 10k rpm shifts felt like butter!!

I believe the Clutch rod adjustment will help with that, I know this is done hydraulically but it does change the engagement point.

If I had this issue, I would definately try it.
