Thumbs up 05 2nd gear grind...

Hello s2ki,

I'm a recent owner of a beautiful 05 Silverstone S2000. The car was purchased used with 83k miles. I've enjoyed it tremendously and have found this forum very informative.

I've driven the car less than a week time and approx. ~500 miles and noticed that that the 1st to 2nd gear grind is happening more frequently. I usually don't drive fast and shift at 3-4k rpm or so.

I've looked into this issue on the forum and found that this is a common issue for AP1s, but not much is mentioned about this with AP2. I don't know what could be the issue. I did checked my transmission fluid and it appears to have been recently changed.

Is there anyone with AP2 s2000 with this problem and what are your thoughts?
My vehicle has an extended warranty that is soon to expire. Should I bring the car into the dealership so they can check it out and what should I say to them to focus them on the problem. I don't want to have to bring the car in to the dealership only for them to blow the problem off, which would be a waste of my time.

Looking forward to your advices and thoughts...

In other words, you don't know... Thanks for the worthless reply anyway.

I've did a search that was unfruitful, that's why I posted the question. The FAQs also only address this problem with AP1s.

Anywho, I will call the dealership to see what's the deal since there is no help from the forum...

Go ahead and take it in prior to your warranty expiring. You could try a fluid change, but if you've got a warranty roll the dice with it first.

I have had a similar issue with my 05 Silverstone. It didn't happen a lot but for some reason driving like a granny (shifting at 3-4k) would not please the transmission in a 1-2 shift. Sometimes I would get little grinds at higher rpm as well. I switched my transmission fluid at 60k miles with GM Synchromesh friction modified fluid and have not had it grind since. I was skeptical about this stuff but try it. If it doesn't help then take it to the shop. I bought from hardtop guy along with a bunch of other maintenance items. See links below.

As someone who is obviously new to the forum you sure dont have a great attitude.

And trust me you are not the first person with 2nd gear grinds. The car has been out for many years and tons of people have discussed just about everything you could ever want on here.

There are a few things you could check:

replace the transmission fluid (how did you know it was recently changed...I'm not sure there is a way to check this other than draining fluid)
https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/index.php...2&t=565855&st=

regrease the shifter (DIY on here to do that)
search was down while I was trying to look for it

TSB on the 2nd gear pop out (could be related...)
https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/307...gear-pops-out/

try another shift knob

try shifting at a higher rpm

use your paid for warranty and report the problem...at a minimum they can regrease the shifter and apply the TSB as a just in case.

Good luck!
