'03 with Gear Grinding
#41
I agree that it is worse when the oil is overheated, but that is really why fresh / better oil works well. My experience is that driving on the highway does NOT cool the tranny down. I frequently grind into 2nd after the 1st stoplight when exiting a highway.

I have a 03 and i started grinding 1-2nd. I took it in to have the delaer look at it and they could not duplicate the problem. SO i started reading up. Taking that extra millisecond really helps. I havn't changed my tranny fluid yet, but I would like to soon!!

I had a perfect grind free day yesterday with 300 miles of driving. Not one grind at all. The oil is still the same, I've not changed the way I shift or anything else.
The only difference is the temperature, it was a hot day (mid 70s). I had a non-stop 120 miles drive and then was stuck in rush hour trafic (stop & go) for a while. No grinds or notcy feeling at all. I was loving it.
I'm pretty much convinced that my car's tranny needs different oils for different temperatures. A winter & summer oil maybe?
It's a cold & rainy day today, I'll see how it shifts today.

Do a search, at least some of the owners who tried Redline in their tranny felt it was "too thin" and returned to OEM. I like Redline for my diff., and in general I'd say most of their products are super but I'd recommend trying Honda's again before switching.
