When I thought my motor failed I did some research and thought it would be best to purchase a used motor and part out the old/broken motor. You can get a used motor for less than 4000 on eBay and/or s2ki. I found a great deal on an ap1 motor in the classfield section. I think he was asking 2100 for engine and trans. The video you posted I think was a confirmed rod knock? Get a second opinion/quote and go from there.

You can't just replace one rod, not to mention who knows the condition of the crank pin from the rod eating away at it. You would need to spend a lot of time and money on machining.
Your best choice is to source a good used motor and swap.

You can't find the motors new anymore... I think both the 2.0 and 2.2 have been discontinued. Probably be cheaper to find a used motor! I would save your old motor as well... could be rebuilt down the road. ( these motors are going to start to be hard to find pretty soon!!! )

2.0L discontinued.
2.2L short block still available, 3500 or so.
MANY S2000 engine builds do not end well.
Be sure who ever builds it has done an S2000 engine before, and someone can vouch for them. Almost everyone will cheap out with universal bearings (instead of color coding and doing it right) and the result is a motor with reduced oil pressure. It will never go the distance like this.
Used motor is always the most cost effective and quickest way to go.

Sorry to derail. Universal bearings? I rebuilt mine by myself and I'm starting to have issues. I used acl bearings. Oem size.. Car has low idle and pulses in rpm range between 700-900. Is this because I used the wrong bearings?

If your car is MY99-05 you may just have a dirty idle air control valve. Google "S2000 Idle issues" and work through the list. It could be dirty IACV, old plugs, valves out of adjustment, MAP sensor needing to be zip-tied, ECU needing to be reset or all of the above.

Same applies for the rods.

you're just going off what your friend said. you'll have to do an oil pressure test to verify if the pump has failed. i'm guessing you ran it hard while it was low on oil. as far as the motor, get it to a reputable mech/speed shop that knows these cars. even if it's a 300$ tow it'll be worth it. go to your areas forum and ask for a good s2k mechanic.
your motor def sounds finished, but i'd still seek out a second professional opinion. if your motor is toast, it seems that the consensus is to buy a used, short or long block, whichever is required.
