01' Hitting 140,000 miles
I'm looking at getting a 2001 S2000 from an older guy who doesn't need it anymore. It just hit 140,000 miles and he just put new tires on it. He already told me he would take $7000 for it, but Im thinking I can get it for closer to $6500. He has never done any major maintenance, never mentioned any issues with sensors or anything. I'm just wondering if an AP1 with this mileage is most likely on its last leg or not? Id hate to buy it and have to motor and tranny swap it and have over $10 into it if you know what I mean. I was already thinking that the clutch is probably pretty weak, but if you have any imput or advice please share.
Im curious how AP1's do when they start getting in the upper 100k mile range...
thanks ahead of time.

Never had major mntnc. done? AP1 retainers known to have cracks around 50,000 miles. We own 2001 ap1 & had retainers replaced with ap2 parts as they are stronger at approx, 28000km. We kept old retainers to show how cracked, was cheaper to do this at dealership than than replace motor.

I've never heard this before.. So your saying the head could need to be taken apart and redone with new retainers? Or are you talking about cracked cam caps? If you have any photos that would be awesome...
No major work ever done to this car by the way. just fluids, tires, brakes, etc...
