Default 00 S2K got hot last night,,,,

00 with 113,XXX,,, The car runs FINE, I mean EXACTLY as it should,,, no oil used,, nothing,,, but last night while sitting in sub 30's weather talking on a cell phone,, with the car idling,, Looked down to see the temp gauge PEGGED!,,, I hit the A/C button to bring the fans of,, and turned the heat all the way up,,, within about 30 secs of hitting the A/C,, the temp gauge went back down to 3 bars,, I gently drove it home with NO problems,,, shut it off,, Went out this morning and popped the rad cap,, FULL ,, recovery bottle half full,,, Started it up,,, ran down the street for coffee, came back,, and let it idle normally while watching the gauge,, After about 20 mins, it got to 4 bars,, I again hit the A/C,, fans come on,,, cools back down,,, shut it off,, let it cool,, popped the cap again,,, FULL!!!! While it was heating up,, the cooling fan NEVER came on,,, but of course does when hitting the A/C,,,, Any ideas?...

Maybe its a bad thermostat and its not opening up correctly after your car warms up?

Yeah, thought of that,,, but if so,, I'd think that it would'a boiled the radiator over,,, I'm also thinking maybe something as simple as the gauge sending unit just being/going bad,, and it's not REALLY hot,, just the gauge shows hot,,, also,, this morning while at 4 bars,, while hot to the touch,, you CAN touch the top of the radiator bare handed,,, which again leads me to think the motor's not really as hot as the gauge says it is,,,, (also,, no cooling fan),, which again leads me to think it's NOT really that hot,,,,

Well,, Looks like I may have found the problem,,, Started looking for the fan switch to test it and see if it was closing, I found it mounted in the bottom, drivers side of the radiator,, Before even testing it, I, "think" I've discovered the problem,, one of the wires going to it is broke,, Lolololol... Might cause the problem huh? lolol Letting it cool to pull the plug and repair it,, Thanks guys,,
