Aren't all year models have the same halfshafts? And aren't left/right halfshafts equal on all year models?
And why did you have to change out the halfshaft? Did it grenade with the diff? What happened? Could anything else be broken as well?
Agree with xviper that if you can't reach 9k in 1st gear, that's A LOT of resistance and I agree with SpitfireS that the resistance would've burnt something given enough time.

Since the drive line has nothing to do with RPM, and you said "It won't wind out past 8k." Can we assume you can't get the in any other gears? I mean the diff speed is related to ground speed only. So if you can drive the car in all 6 gears only to 8k, that tells me it is motor and not the diff and axles.
See where I am going with this?

^^ That makes sense - but the motor was fine before the axle broke. I'll start checking for exhaust leaks. I did put a header on about a week before the axle went.

And the jackass of the day award goes to.........S2KNKY and his disregard for the @#*$&@ Nitrous switch being in the ARM position. No wonder it was bogging at WOT - It was dumping enough fuel into the throttle body for a 50 shot....
Thanks for your help guys.

Nice. Good thing you remembered that. Are you sure that the tires are supposed to spin in opposite directions? That has been the case with the non-lsd cars that I've worked on, but I don't know maybe someone can clear that up for me.
