There is a TSB for the "clutch Rattle" and you will find info on the site with a search. You might be SOL warrenty wise but it can be fixed at least .

TSB = Technical Service Bulletin (put out by Honda)

SOL = $hit Outa Luck

as mentioned, of you do a search you find the particular TSB #. If you walk into the service dept of most any Honda dealer and expalin the symptoms they should know exactly what to do (per the TSB).

do you think by replacing the clutch when it goes out, the problem of the rattling will be solved? thanks.

I have a UK May 2001 model and I've had this noise since I got the car (seven months old, with 5k miles at the time), but thought it might be a characteristic of the car. When I took it in for the 27k service, I asked the delaer (Arnold Clark in Altrincham - South Manchester) to come on a test drive with me. The service manager drove and he confirmed that it was the clutch when he simply spoke the words (to my suprise!) "It's the clutch... we'll order you a new one under warranty".

I was even more amazed, as my cars original owner had bought the car from an import company, who had brought the car in from Belgium (full UK spec, but has to be registered for warranty with Honda UK). I had only just gotten round to completing this registration process, so thought there might be issues, but no; a week later I got a brand new clutch for free! BONUS!

Must try for the roof rattle repair before May when my warranty runs out!

No use to you without a warranty, but it does confirm that there is an issue. The good news is, the service manager told me that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the clutch and would go on to do well over 100k miles - it's just noisey under the ease-off coming down between 5k and 3K revs. They'd been told by Honda UK that they could change clutches if someone complained.

Hope this helps, good luck!
