i have a stock pressure plate with SEVEN miles on it, came from a crash test car. I can't tell the difference between it and a new one.

The way I've always tested for a bad clutch was to put the car in third with the e-brake on and try to feather the clutch and get the car going. The car should stall if the clutch is good. Just my $0.02.

Why does he need to put it in 6th to test out the clutch? Wouldn't a slipping clutch be known if he doesn't put it in 6th? If it revs and he is in gear with clutch out that should indicate right there that has a slipping clutch.

In 6th gear the engine is working against the greatest resistance force from the wheels, ie. it has the least leverage in moving the car forward over a greater distance.

In a lower gear it requires less force to move the car over the shorter distance it would travel and the clutch may hold, simply because there is less strain on it with the reduced forces at work (plus the tires may just break loose).

If the clutch is on it's way out it becomes the weak link in the greatest force vs. greatest resistance tug of war that 6th gear provides (for this statement to be true, I suppose you would have to be in VTEC in 6th, but I doubt it necessary just to test the clutch).

were you the orig owner of your 02? if so do you think it was your driving style that caused the clutch to start slipping?
Unfortunately my car was used...I would really like to know how the original owner drove it. But even then, i bought my car with 8000 miles on it. How can someone be so shitty at driving stick to beat up the clutch in 8000 miles? I guess you would think that most people owners that buy an S2000 know how to drive stick..

Yeah, the wife wants a sports car manual so I told her we would take out my S tonight so she could get some practice. I haven't smelled that much clutch in years... She got the hang of it though.

My parents used to ahve a z3 where the clutch slipped. either of the tests mentioned above are good test. I find it a little strange that the RPMS drop. Typically my experience of a slipping clutch is me flooring it, the RPMS going up and the car struggling to go.

my 2cents.
