Default ((0)) Slipping Clutch at 9k

Ok I just picked up a 2003 s2k with 4k miles on the odometer.

I now notice that when I shift hard at 9k rpms the clutch slips consistanly. It'll drop maybe 1k rpm before catching.

My old 01 grabbed like a champ. never any slippage.

Is there anything I can do to condition the clutch to grab like new again or am I looking at a new clutch?

TIA

If the clutch is just glazed it may wear down and stop slipping after some amount of easy use. If it does not improve it will just get worse and the only choice it to replace it.

hopefully thats the case.. I guess i'll have to stop those 9k shifts for a while! heh

I'm thinking either the original owner abused the clutch or rode the clutch too much since its a low torque car.

get car into 6th gear and floor it. if the RPMs rise quickly then your clutch is slipping.

I have a stock clutch with about 3k miles on it if you go that route Kai.

I have the same problem on my '02 and it got better when i stopped shifting fast at redline. However, the problem came back as soon as i started driving it hard for a long amount of time.

Why does he need to put it in 6th to test out the clutch? Wouldn't a slipping clutch be known if he doesn't put it in 6th? If it revs and he is in gear with clutch out that should indicate right there that has a slipping clutch.

were you the orig owner of your 02? if so do you think it was your driving style that caused the clutch to start slipping?

My02 did the same thing stock. I dont think its clutch slip. Its that the tires are to grippy. Its only dropping 1k, its not like your tapping off the rev limiter.
