[P1399] Engine misfire, what else to do?
#21
Agreed. And as many of us with F20's know first hand, the amount of oil usage between oil changes if not checked and topped off frequently has resulted in many unnecessary premature destroyed motors.

Sorry, the OP was out for a while and didn't have the chance to read the comments above. Did read them now, very interesting and worrying at the same time. The car has never run low on oil since I owned it. What happened before, I obviously don't know. Swapping the coils didn't work. I'm comfortable removing the VTEC system, have the right tools to do so. Will pull it and report back with pictures.

Yeah, thats what I was afraid of
Well if the bearing hasn't completely spun in the rod yet, some have had success replacing them without tearing the engine down, just pulling the end caps off the rods and leaving crank in place, so the motor still may be saveable. But you wont know until you remove the pan and girdle to inspect.

If you're seeing low oil pressure, it is the mains and not the rod bearings (though they could be damaged as well). Sorry OP you will have to tear down to salvage the engine. Hopefully the bearings did their job and the crank and journals are A-OK.
