It's not just the S2000. Most salesmen don't know jack about any of their cars, really. And if they do know better, they are usually willing to lie anyway.
I had one tell me that my AWD Element was "full-time RWD, but if the rear wheels slip then the front wheels get power". Which was absolutely backwards of course, but either he believed it or he thought I wanted to hear it.

Yeah I get the "hell yeah they made that with an automatic" a lot from people who don't know what they're talking about, it's best to just let it go.... Then again I have lots of people think I'm driving a Miata....

How many times have we talked about dealerships not knowing much of anything?
"They never used it, and it is a genuine Honda Accessorie"
The "Thats a nice Miata" gets me too

It's okay ... one of the salesman in a dealer insisted that the brakes on the S2000 are made by Brembo and have 4 pistons -- I never knew Brembos look like that, nor did I know that one could fit some many pistons on floating calipers!?!
I've heard of other funny ones too ...

As the saying goes, "Never argue with an idiot. People who are watching might not be able to tell the difference between the two." Besides, he's already driving a GM product, so he's already got enough troubles!

About 7 years ago i was picking up some parts at the local dealer with a freind. We were talking about putting cam gears on his type-r while waiting for the parts guy to look up all the part numbers. So a mechanic walks in and over hears our conversation and starts telling us how and why the cam gears make power. He told me the secret is using a smaller cam gear so it spins the cams faster, the faster the cams spin the more air will go into the motor. I began to debate with him about the postion adjustment being the key to its function. He went on to tell me he has been a mechanic for almost 20 years and knows a lot more about these motors than i ever will. I ended up agreeing with him just to end the conversation.

I saw a really good one in January '06 issue of Tuner Performance Reports mag. They had the S as their feature ride and all the specs including 9.1 quarts of ATF for the automatic transmission! This is a national magazine mind you! Ridiculous!!
