I hate the term "four banger."
If the same people who said that also said "six banger" or "eight banger" then it might be ok. However, they only use the word "banger" with four cylinder engines. I think to the ears of the uninitiated, the term "four banger" diminishes the value of this technologically advanced engine. To me in fact, it sounds like an insult.
I always say "two liter four cylinder" because it rolls off the tongue better.
