as much as this rumor would be nice if true, who in the hell would pay 60k for a s? not me! besides there are plenty of the originals out there quite capable of 350hp. at 60k, that would be enough to cause the value of the originals still out there to go up. the rumor mill is still churning!

we've all got to realize that a niche car like the S2000 from an ROI perspective is a loser depending on how the costs are allocated. The Corvette is in the same category.
However, as a statement of technology, capability and image, Honda management considered it a good investment in the late 90s. After that they decided that after the huge tooling and development costs were "sunk" they might as well keep making the roadster but not supporting with marketing. I don't think there was ever a tiny bit of promotion ( most people didn't even know they existed).
Until Honda management sees a small volume vehicle that will do the same thing, none of the design exercises we hear about will be on the showroom floor
