i think the green key light coming on is a good sign, probably means the car shut off, or got shutoff somehow for somereason instead of the motor failing etc....

That's happened to me once in my '02. I was accelerating on a freeway on-ramp, and all of a sudden, the car just lost all power. There was no commotion at all - the dashboard just suddenly went completely dark. I pulled over and restarted the car, and haven't had any odd happenings since.
Since it was an isolated incident, I've always personally attributed it to my bumping the key out of the ignition, even though I don't remember doing anything like that.

Well, the thing is even if the key was shut off, the car wouldnt shut off for a minute. The alarm I have has a kinda turbo timer function on it. It shuts off when armed but other then that, it stays running for a min before shutting off. Unless you turn the key off then back on then back of, it wont shut off. I highly doubt it was that.

Just out of curiosity, what year is your car? This makes me wonder if my incident really was due to my bumping the ignition. I've never fully believed that I bumped the ignition, but it seemed like the only plausible explanation at the time. This makes me think otherwise.

Any chance you own another Honda that has the immobilizer key system ? And the key is on the same ring? The manual for my new Civic SI says that the immobilizer system can get confused if another immobizer key is in close proximity. It also says that metallic items (key fobs, bottle openers, etc...) on the same key ring as an immobilizer key can make it unhappy. I keep my S2000 and SI keys separate, just in case.
The green key symbol on your instrument panel is the immobilizer light. If it came on, your car was confused about it's key and shut itself down.
