There's a good number of SE PA guys on this thread...sup guys!

also wanted to mention - i'm a consultant in the software industry. this means I have the option of working from home when the weather is bad. But it doesn't stop me from thinking about fixing up my sisters old 87 civic to pass inspection and use this as my winter beater. hey - it's free

I drive mine most every day. I don't drive it in inclement weather or if that stuff is imminent. I do however live in the Dallas Metropolitan area where winter lasts about 3 weeks and we have sun about 70 percent of the time.

Yesterday was 74 and the top was down.

I was all set to use my S2000 as a daily driver. No kids yet and I rarely have to transport anything big & bulky. In the mid-Atlantic, where you rarely get HUGE snowfalls (and them everything is closed anyway), I figured ground clearance wasn't a big issue. I'd put on snow tires and just go.

But I have to wear a suit everyday and when it got cold I added a long overcoat. Layered up like that, the S2000 just became too small and uncomfortable. Then I considered real world winter driving. Salt, ice chunks flying off of cars, coated slush stuck to the undercarriage, and cruddy shoes dirtying up the inerior. The totality made me realize that messing up the S2000 and being uncomfortable was a bad idea.

I bought a used Land Rover as a winter daily driver. It's been 2 months and I am really enjoying it. I just climb in and go. The S2000 still goes out on nice, dry, winter days. But it's my choice now. Much better.

I suggest a beater as a 2nd car. Having a car that you don't obsess over or worry about it very liberating.

Some people will drive S2000 all year around and some people won't. Which ever side you are on, doesn't make a difference. Nobody questions your enthusiasm and love for this wonderful car and nobody should!

That being said, I spent one winter in my S2000 with Blizzaks on. The car handled fine and I never got stuck in snow. HOWEVER! I came close to being whiped out by SUVs and stupid drivers on the road.

Never again I reminded myself. So I got a second car. Volvo 850 GLT. Safe and serves me well. Besides, when I get back into my S2000 I appreciate the car even more and love the way it feels when I drive it. Like a new car feeling all over again.

To each of their own I say. But will I drive my S2000 as a daily driver? I will if I have to. But for now, I love the heated seat and safe feeling that my 9 year old Volvo gives me when I drive it around in cold December days.

I live in Philly and use mine as a daily driver (when I'm in town). I used it to commute to a client site all of last winter without any major problems. I just watched the weather reports for snow. If I had an inkling that any precip. was on the way, I just rented a car for the day/week (it's worth the $29). The interior warms up quickly in such a small car, which is nice in the winter. Just be smart about driving the S2000 in the winter and you should be ok (i.e. - winterize it, don't VTEC in cold rain, etc.).

A beater / daily driver can really work to your advantage when it comes to insurance. It can sometimes actually be cheaper with two cars insured.

Check it out.

While I think a beater car is perfectly fine (I have a 5th Gen Prelude for that), there is something that soundzero touched on that I've learned all too well. For me it's not so much driving the car and handling it in bad weather that worries me....it's every other mindjob out there in the snow or the rain that thinks their AWD car or SUV is utterly invincible and refuse to adapt their driving to what's falling from the sky.

As anyone who lives in the D.C. Metro can probably tell you...traffic here typically sucks, but when the weather is rainy or snowing....it's ten times worse. You end up with someone in an SUV riding your anus, pushing you to drive faster than what is safe.....completely ignoring the fact that their SUV's 4-wheel cpapability does absolutely nothing for it's stopping power. Consider the other drivers you have to deal with during the crappy winter months when you choose what to do.

I live in PA and use mine as a daily driver. I just put my hard top on a few weeks ago. I love it.
I don't want to drive anything else. If the roads are that bad which they hardly ever are, I'll stay home.
