DAILY DRIVER!

Insurance too dependant on your region.

I pay <1300 a year now with great coverage, but I'm the magic age of >30.

Two seater = life is better. Iv'e never wanted a back seat in this car!

I live in Limerick PA!

GET SNOW TIRES, WITHOUT THEM YOU WILL DIE!

I have snows and I was only in one minor snow drift issue last winter.

For the most part it can handle it you just have to drive like a normal human being just beware of snow drifts higher than your bumper =(.

Don't worry about the 5 miles or less it will be 5 miles of pleasure even in the winter and a car is ment to be used as a car not a trophy.

I get 3 bars by the time I get to my second traffic light <2 miles even if 35 degrees like it was today.

I'm a bastard I get in my car I turn the key I adjust my balls and then I put the car in reverse, I don't let it warm up but I do drive it under 15 mph for ~1/2 mile through the development and then I always have to sit at my fist light ~1mile for about 30 seconds. By the time I really get underway I'm warmed up to two bars the third one by the next light ~1mile away even on very cold days.

Suggestions:

If your looking for cheaper insurance and a back seat check out these cars, most of us that own S2000s have but we want the best for the $ and can live with 2seats and love the convertable.

WRX <- great performance cheaper on ins
WRX STI <--more pep more $$ more ins
G35 <-- nice nice but a little more $ less pep
RX-8 <-- same deal
Evo 350Z

All these cars are respectable in there own way but nothing compares to the S except the Z4 and Boxter/(S) <-- not quite as fun but richer plusher rides of course more $$$

Good luck

Not to bad except for snow. Im familiar with Willow Grove I was just there yesterday. A lot of hills. You might want a cheap truck for snow, thats what I did. Which area do you live in?

Mine is a daily driver AND I live in Calgary, Alberta, CANADA! The S2000 gets used whenever I need to use it. It doesn't matter if it's down to the corner store or clear across town. Nor does it matter if it's in 100+ degrees in the heat of the summer or -40 degrees in the middle of February. I've driven it in torential downpours and in the middle of white-out blizzards. It's been driven through gorgeous summer days through the clean air of the mountains and it's been driven through parking lots covered with 15 INCHES of freshly fallen snow. I've only ever gotten stuck ONCE and that was because while parked outside overnight, the snow drifted to 3 FEET just behind me. A Jeep Cherokee also got stuck with me. I drive through salt and gravel and mud and I've been doing this for 4 YEARS. This winter is my 5th. The car has NOT rusted away, nor has it been beaten to death by rocks. In fact, when winter is over, I clean it up and it doesn't look any worse for wear than those who had it stored.
So what if some of my trips don't get the engine HOT? That's what the "severe" maintenance schedule is for. Does a Chev Cavalier care if most of its trips are less than 4 miles? And they've been known to last for years and go a couple hundred thousand miles. My daughter has one such Cavalier and it is, by no means, a "better" car.
The car no longer burns any oil and it has NEVER let me down. I drag race AWD Audis with their owners thinking they are smug with their summer performance tires across snow and ice covered intersections and I BEAT their sorry asses. They just don't seem to understand how a RWD car can do that. (Secret? SNOW TIRES!)
No, it's not our only car, but I drive mine and my wife drives hers (not an S). I rarely depend on her to loan me the "family" car just because the weather is a bit "bad".
When it comes down to it, the S2000 is "just" a car, but in this same token, because I can use it like most any other car, it is a GREAT CAR!
Some guys won't even drive this car in the RAIN! I wouldn't imagine these same people would drive it in SNOW. In a sense, I feel sorry for them. I have as much fun (maybe more) with the S2000 in my winter than I do in the summer. Why would I drive a BEATER when I can drive an S2000? Isn't winter depressing enough as it is? The S2000 just gives me shits and giggles all winter long.
DON'T drive an S2000 in winter for you own reasons, but don't make like you think it's because the car wasn't built for it or that it can't do it. (Or maybe you just think I've been dreaming this stuff up the last 4 winters?)
BTW, did I mention that it's got a Vortech under the hood and the hood is full of holes (vented)?

ps. Remember the guy who lived in Anchorage, Alaska? He drove his all winter as well.

I dunno but I'm biased.. I just went from an 02' S to an 05TL. Looking back with 20/20, the S is better as a 2nd or 3rd. If my memory of S ownership serves me correctly I remember posting about how much more I enjoyed my car after getting a beater. It's more fun if your not always behind the wheel. You'll always be trying to take it easy on the interior/exterior,etc. but you cannot if it's your only gig. She'll get used up quick. I vote no -or- get a beater that'll pass emissions and then grab your S.

Well said Xviper well said.

I will say to those who like a beater that there is nothing wrong with getting a beater either.

If I were to get a beater it would be to save me from putting 30,000 miles a year on my S just long enough for me to get a full 5 years out of my 5/100 honda care.

I would be nice to have a truck or something bigger just for picking up larger items. Maybe a jeep liberty or wrangler. I don't knoe but I get the impression that I would flip a wrangler.

I think it would be a bad idea for you to use an S2000 as a daily driver, the main reason being is that you live only 4 miles from work. Car manufacturers say that driving less than 5 miles is considered severe driving. If your work is only 4 miles from your home, you will never get your S2000 up to optimal temperature. I think a reasonable alternative is to get a beater car.
so driving 1.5 miles to \ from work 14 days a month would be a no-no?

I live in central Wisconsin and have to put up with crappy roads, snow,
& salt. If I only had a choice of the S2000 or something else, it would
be something else.

It's my daily driver...I can't seem to drive anything else because I'll be disappointed that I'm not driving the "S".

I'll drive it in the rain, in the fog, and in the bright sunlight. I won't drive it in the snow though but it rarely snows here in Charlotte; if it does, that's what the Civic is for

I agree with xviper...the S2000 is a great daily driver.

mine is the daily driver. but i live in florida.
I am in Florida as well. My commute is over 35 miles and it is an hour in each direction with all the traffic. No highway, just loose suburb traffic al though there is some stop and go. Heatsoak is a problem if I stop somewhere for a few minutes and start again. Stop and go does present some bogging as well.

Gas is an expense!! 2.11 per gal makes you notice 15 or so of them going into your car

i figured a s2000 or e36 m3 convert???

is the 2 seater a pain the ass??? i look at as an excuse not to drive....hahha

i haven't gotten in an accident in 3 years...so how much do you guys my age pay for insurance...oh yeah and i havne't had any tickets either....

just any suggestions would help
Hey - I work in Horsham - right down the street.

I just bought mine a few months ago. I think this car is fine for a daily driver. But in the snow, I'd recommend snow tires, even though I haven't driven it in snow yet. It's my 3rd rwd car/truck so I know what it's like driving higher HP cars in the snow...not so fun, but do-able.

I'm 26. I use Allstate, and I'm paying 212/mo for this car...90+ more a month than my Lightning cost me. Insurance sucks, but you'll hear that from most people on here.
