Would you guys ever consider putting a domestic engine in your S2K
I was thinking about this the other day while browsing Darius 240Z. Say in 10 or 15 years, would you consider buying an S2K without an engine or with a blown engine and swapping it out with say a 03 Cobra engine ( 390HP ) or a Z06 engine ( 405HP )? Imagine how fun THAT car would be with that much power and torque available! Granted I think it would be a hell of a project, but the possibilites are awesome. So what do you think? Would you try something like this?

Sure the f/r weight ratio will be screwed up, maybe relocating the battery to the trunk with a fuel cell might even things out a bit? This is all speculation, I'm not saying that idea is perfect, but if we could do this and keep the f/r at least 60/40 what might the ensuing car be like? BTW, if you want some inspiration watch some of the videos of Darius' 240Z on his site, very cool IMO.

Yeah, it would definately be different. Being a loyalist of Japanese makes and especially Honda however, here's what I think would be different and bad ass. A fully rebuilt twin turbo NSX engine reconfigured to front mount rear wheel drive. Stephan Papadakis did this with his new drag civic. Oh, I've seen a few of Darius' videos. Pretty impressive. I'm just a Japanese loyalist though.

I hear ya, but from a practical standpoint, it dosen't make sense. Like F20Flex said, I'd rather rework an F20 to about 500 hp and retain all the handling and cosmetic traits of the original car, while keeping it as light as possible.
Now if I wanted a stright-line racer, there's a guy down the road from me who (god bless him) has a Triumph for sale that he managed to stuff a bored small block Chevy with a huge blower into, tubbed with Mickey Thompsons and everything. It's been for sale for about 3 years and nobody will touch it with a ten-foot pole, although I would like to drive it just once.
I still can't understand why it doesn't have roller bars on it (scary)!

I'd rather eat pre-chewed peanut brittle than put anything other than an F20C in this engine bay. Not for me though I'm sure it'll be done sooner or later. Some things are better left as originally designed. Without the stock engine, it is less than what it was, power be damned.

I guess this is what makes is all different. I would have no qualms doing something like this, I'd love to have the instant torque and hp of a powerful V8 with the handling characteristics & roadster feel of the S2K. I think you could even out the F/R ratio by replacing the hood, and fenders with CF replicas, and relocating the battery to the trunk. I wonder what the weight difference between the F20C and the ZO6 engine are....

"Monster Miata's" have 302 Fords, so why not throw in a big old American V8 into a S2000!!!!!
Get a solid axle rearend, some decent drag radials and you should be good for some pretty fast fun.

BTW to everyone who reads this thread, I don't want this thread to turn into a flame war, so please don't come on here bashing anyone for their opinion. I posted this thread for discussion and speculation of what a domestic engine could bring to our wonderful roadster. FYI, I own both a Mustang ( 2002 Mustang GT ) and an S2K ( MY 01 ) so I'm not biased one way or another.
