Would you buy a brand new S2K for MSRP?
well the question basically says what im asking. i went down to the dealer and they had a black/black 01 s2k on the floor that they were willing to sell for msrp. i offered msrp out the door, and they turned me down. so i walked out. anyways did i do the right thing or not. well you see i have a 02 on order right now also. maybe thats why i turned it down, but what do you guys think?

I think that you made a reasonable offer. The economy is in a major slump and the 2002 models are on the verge of being released like bats out of hell. (Some are perhaps already here?!) There have been people who have bought their cars for less than MSRP (probably very few). Many have paid MSRP+TAX. And others have paid MSRP+TAX+MARKUPS.
I think you did a good thing by walking out because if you don't get the price you want, you should always walk out. (Assuming you made a REASONABLE OFFER, which I think you did for a MY2001 model)
You mine as well wait for the 2002 model if you can't get a deal you want on a 2001. The '02 comes with additional goodies that you might find to your liking. Be patient and the price will be right.

Alot depends on where you're located ... around here (Washington DC area) ... right now ... I would not pay more than MSRP - $1,000 for a new 2001 s2k.
Have fun,

I would not pay MSRP for an '01 anywhere; I would want it below MSRP.
With the Sazuka Blue already on order and due soon, yah, you did the right thing!

And be luck you only have a month to wait! My '02 S2000 is due in May, I have elected to wait for the snow to go.

You might want to post the deaership, since a lot of people are still looking for a place to buy at MSRP down here in So Cal.
Personally, I don't think getting an 01 for MSRP is bad at all.

I would not pay MSRP for a 2001 S2000 - it already has inbuilt depreciation. 2002s with glass rear windows, improved transmissions, and no depreciation can be had for MSRP (though you may have to travel depending on the area in which you live).

Vandergriff Honda, in Arlington, TX added all of the options but a hard top and a $7000 markup over MSRP for the last yellow 2001 until the '02 arrives
$42 K+ for an '01 while dealers on the other side of Fort Worth sell for sticker...
