would u replace S w/ BMW M3 SMG?

Both cars are awesome. I only drove the SMG M3 once.....and I've had my '05 S2K for just under two months (only 1400 miles). They are WAY different and the S2K is certainly not inferior. I think it boils down to them being so different that a comparison is not possible.
Again, I had an excellent chance at getting one in perfect shape, adult owned, garaged whenever parked, etc. Had money not gotten in the way.......I'd be there in a hearbeat.
That being said, I had not driven an S2K until the day I bought mine. It really is an awesome car. The gadget freak in me craves for the SMG.
In an ideal world, I'd have the SMG M3 for the week and the S2K for the weekends. That really would be the best of both worlds. Having to give one up to have the other is the tough part.

if i drive the M3 the way its meant to be driven, i'll be behind bars...
There is a little button that says "Trouble"......errrrr.....I mean "Sport" which opens things up more making the gas pedal much much much more responsive. I could drive in traffic with Sport mode on, but only if I didn't care about my front bumper and the person in front of me. With Sport mode off the throtle response is very conservative - really kicking in around 3,000 RPM. This car really is like having two cars in one:
1. DSC on with Sport Mode off - conservative around town driving
2. DSC off with Sport Mode on - balls to wall
It is a great car - IMO a total package......I think you should get one

I agree with what others here have posted regarding post warranty cost of ownership.
I'm sure my S2K will not cost much to operate or repair after the warranty is up.
The same cannot be said for the M3. SMG or not, these cars cannot be fixed just anywhere and repairs will be expensive. And as much as I like these cars, I've seen it in friends BMW's that they are prone to have glitches from time to time. My friends M3 had to have it's left side headlight assembly replaced twice (something about the light flickering).
I'm sure that's a really expensive assembly should he had to replace it out of warranty.
Just something to think about. Honda's won't break your wallet after the warranty period is up. I lease my Mercedes for this very reason.
