I'd go for it if the price is right. 50k miles is relatively high mileage for a '04 S2000, but in terms of absolute mileage, it's really not that bad for this car and most others. My '02 S2000 has 77k miles on it and nothing has ever broken on it.

If you're concerned about reliability due to mileage, I'd suggest posting a thread specifically asking owners of high mileage S2000's for their experiences with the car. That will get you more relevant information. If someone has a S2000 that isn't driven a whole lot, then 50k miles is going to sound like a lot. For those of us who commute with ours, take road trips in it, and rack up the mileage, 50k miles is nothing.

Price will depend on a bunch of factors, but keep in mind that the sports car market is somewhat soft at the moment, and that many buyers will be scared off by the mileage. I'd say your chances of getting a bargain are pretty good. Good luck!

well...

1. how long you plan to keep in and how many miles per year?

say 2 years, daily, 20,000miles...2yrs: 40,000miles...
or weekender 5000miles...2yrs: 10,000miles?

2007 April, MY04, 90,000miles
or
2007 April, MY04, 60,000miles...

what would you offer or pay?

2. someone's got a buy this car, right?

a. i would look at condition/driver/maintenace of the car first...
b. i would need get a great deal like $20K or under.
c. if you plan on putting some miles, like more than 15k per year, i would not consider this car at all...but would consider as a weekender putting less than 5k per year.

I'd rather buy a car with 50k easy highway miles than 10k of hard-use miles.

Personally, I wouldn't buy an 04 with 50K miles. I might not even buy an '03 with 50K. This is just because this is a sport car, and many people only use it as a weekend car. So finding one with low miles are pretty easy out there. I dont' want to own a new car with high miles, I rather have an 01 or 02 with 50K but not an 04. I just recently bought an '02 in perfect condition inside out, only with 11K miles and I got it for $23K. Skip on it, I'm sure there's plenty of other S2K for sale somewhere. Patience is golden, once you find the right one, you wont' regret it. If you get this, you might regret it later.

I had a '96 Integra GS-R that was used as my daily driver/commuter car. It had 65,000 all-highway miles on it when I sold it. The car was never beaten on or abused. Everything from the interior to the paint on the outside was nearly perfect. Whoever bought that car got an incredible deal.

The point is, there are high(er) mileage cars that are in good shape. If you inspect the car before you buy it (or pay a Honda tech to inpect it), you should be ok. With 50k miles, it would be obvious if there was substantial abuse done to the car. Do your due diligence first, but don't be afraid to buy a car with 50k miles just because those with garage queens are afraid of putting anything over 10k miles on their own cars ( my own car is an '02 and has <10k miles, so I'm not knocking anyone).

I'd go with a lower mileage car...especially since most of these cars are driven hard. If mileage is the only comparison you've got (don't know owner, maintenance, etc) then I'd say don't do it.

EDIT - Of course, my car isn't a good example of that. It had three engines in 12K miles. Has 25K now.

God, it's been a few years since I've posted, but yeah i can see 50k in one year.. i no longer have my S2000 (sold it when moving from vegas to wisconsin) but my current 05 TC already has 25k on it and I bought it in July... 50k seems like a lot, but remember there are a lot of jobs out there that require alot of driving.. and with that sort of mileage, there's no way it's anything but HWY driving... just make sure he had his oil changes and services done.. but for under $20k i'd probably consider it.

While looking through cars on autotrader recently (and before deciding on the s2k) I called a guy about a 1998 Eclipse GST that said 8000 obo. The car looked great in the photo and upon talking to him (who had the worst southern accent I've heard) he told me that the car had "high miles" but that he just put in a new turbo, new head gasket, valve job, and other things. I inquired again, "how many miles though?" and he finally said "204,000" at this point I actually started to laugh aloud and preceeded to hang up!

Who drives a car over 200k miles in 6 years? lol
