Not sure what your living situation is, or how much your dad is willing to kick in to assist, but this appears to be the ballpark figure to start with.

 

If you will only NET $600 per month on a part-time job you don't have yet... They you will be desperately scratching just to make the car payment on a 2003, even with a $12,000 down payment. You have to figure in the cost of fuel, tires, speeding tickets, etc.

I think you would be wise to seek out a used S2000 if you really want one. Try to go for a 2002 model year if possible so you'll get the glass back window and transmission improvements. You might have to wait another 8-10 months for prices to fall far enough on the 02s.

If I were you, I'd get a brand new one (the feeling/smell of a new car is intoxicating). Its about 30-33k, with 12k down you should be making like 450 monthly payments I believe on a 60 month payment. I know your going to college and worried about tuition. I am attending OSU and my financial aid pays for all my tuition/book/room/board/misc and I have money leftover (hence my new ride). If your making like 600 a month and if you have financial aid to cover for your other expenses you should be set, (which is similiar to my case). I hope this helps.

Thanks everyone, I think i will just get a Honda Certified used s2000 (either 2000 or 2001, or if there is a good 2002 for 25k).

afterall first year hondas are always the best (well atleast in 0-60)

 

Go new man...if its only a couple grand more and you dont have to worry about the "regular" problems. My dad always told me never to buy someone elses problem. Thats basically what a used car is. Not to bash anyone with a used car but if it was such a great car like people advertise then why are they selling it?

I look at it this way. Wouldn't you rather have a girl that doesn't have so many "miles" on her? (you know what i mean?!?!) =]

 

oh no, this car is from the dealer and is Honda Certified. It will have less than 20k on the clock and a couple grand isn't the case. it's actually $10k , atleast from the dealers near me.

 

if your parents can help you out, you are better off buying new (this will also force you to put the drinking money into your car)

if you factor in maintanance and GAS you will live more comfortably in a used S2000...if you buy used, make sure you get the dealership to include an extended HondaCare warranty for 2/3/4 more years after the basic 3yr is up...if you don't you are better off buying new if you plan on keeping it for a while...the thousands that you save now may bite you in the end later without the extended warranty
