Default Wisdom needed from the experienced. ::buying estuke::

Well, I am getting an s2000 for sure within the next 3 months but I keep thinking which path i should take. The facts are that I will be selling my vtec prelude soon and with that money and what I have saved I will have about $12k for a downpayment on an s2k. I will be starting college near that time as well and will be working part time.

1.I can either buy a "New Used Honda Certified" 2000-2001 s2k with under 20k miles for about ~$24k

or

2.I can get a Brand Spankin New 2003 s2k for ~$30k-33k ( i heard people getting for that much on here but so far ive only seen 33k as the lowest.)

with that extra $6k-9k for the brand new s2k be worth it? and how much more will i expect to pay monthly with option # 2 ?

Tia, any help is much appreciated. =)

hmmm, how strapped are you for cash? will payments be hard for ya? are you going to want to do any mods?

i guess you'll have to look at these things.

Personally, I don't make a buttload of money (hardly make any really), but I went with a new one. just something about buying a car where the only owner has been me. Prolly just peace of mind for me though.

unfortunately thats a decision you will have to make, but I can tell you that if you look hard enough u should be able to find a New/used 02-3 at or under 30k.

Be careful about that word, "STOOK" or estuke....you could see a mean backlash!

Watch yourself you could arouse some animosity. There were a few changes in 2002 which make it a little more appealing, such as aluminum surrounding the tail lights, glass rear window which is a big plus from what I hear, they fixed the tranny, some people were experiencing 1-2 grind, and a few other small changes, but I say go for a used, 2002-2003, if you want piece of mind go new. Just curious where are you going to college?

I agree with the others; its a decision that's completely up to you. Here are my thoughts though:

If you plan to mod and you have a fixed amount of cash, then used might be better.

If you have a limited amount of cash to begin with, used might be better.

If you're completely anal about knowing everything that has happened to your car during its life, buy new.

I'm purchasing used because I know I will be just as happy with it and I only have a certain amount of money. I have also shopped very carefully and I'm willing to travel to get what I want for the price I want it at. Granted, I'm shopping for an '00 at the low end of the price spectrum.

You can pick up a used '02 for a very decent price these days; a dealer near me just advertised an '02 with 5k on the clock for $25k.

Just weigh the pro's and con's.
