Why is the value of this car dropping like a Mir space station?

Supply seems to have caught up with demand. New S2ks are available at MSRP in many and maby most parts of the country. If you can buy a new 2001 for 33K then you wouldn't expect tp pay that much for a used 2001 and even less for a 2000. Then you have thew retail/wholesale issue. A dlr can buy a new one for about 28k (invoice) so a dlr wouldn't want to stock a used 2001 for more than about 26k ora 2000 for over 22-23k.
Bottom line: Unless you are in an area where cars are still bringing above MSRP new then a used 2000 is probsbly worth about 22k wholesale-25k retail.

Southern California Dealerships average about 40k for a 2001, ive seen as high as 45,000. I was told by one dealer(dont know the validity) that an exotic car shop had it for 55k.

SF Honda is still putting a 7000 premium on top of MSRP for new ones, I have no idea what they are actually getting for them, but a salesman yesterday said there was no way they'd take MSRP or less.

While shopping for mine a little over a month ago, Honda of North Hollywood had 3 priced at $45-50k. All had front and rear spoilers, side strakes, the cd changer and a nice little 10k premium. I noticed while looking around that dealers in SoCal can get away with this because there must a ton of stupid rich people running around.

The price around here (New England) is still MSRP only.
BTW, I was told to expect an average of a 2-3% increase on next year's Honda models. Delivery charges will most certainly increase again thanks to OPEC!

My thoughts? The market is in a downer, a big one, so values are ALL low. Location is a big part, too... Like they said, if you're in CA, the car won't depreciate as much. Most other places, the car's a "summer treat," not something that'll hold market value for constant use-ability.
That, and it's a new car. The market doesn't know how it'll stack up in the long run, and maybe some of the problems that occurred for some people logged up. If Honda keeps it around, it gets more buyers, and maintains a good reliability record... the value will hold better.
