Default Why spend the money on exhaust?

I see that a lot of S2000 owners have exhuast systems on their cars and they are not running forced induction or nitrous for that matter. I would like to know what is the big deal about spending anywhere from $800-$1400 for an exhuast system that only gives you a measely 4-5whp on the dyno. IMO thats a big waste of money for just that much of a performance difference. The 4.57R gear would be more of a practical investment. Is it because our S2000's aren't that loud that we have to spend this much money just so it looks like we came out of "The Fast and the Furious" movie? I think Honda did a fantastic job on the stock exhaust and from what I heard its a pretty damn good system for our car. Are we just kicking Honda R&D for some fartpipe sounds or are you NA owners just overwhelmed by the 4-5whp you gain? Please tell me...

Some single exhausts can make double digit gains along with 40 lbs of wieght reduction.

1st, the power outputs of the exhausts are not all 4-5whp. Some 70mm single exhausts give substantial 10rwhp+ gains. Most exhausts also save at least 25lbs, some as much as 40lbs. To some, this is worthwhile, to some it is a waste of money. This doesn't take into account heavily opinion based topics of sound, looks, etc. that aftermarket exhausts can better.

Many people may claim your gears suggestion to be just as pointless as you think exhausts are. Depends on what you want.

You seem decently educated on this matter, and your opinion is obviously against aftermarket exhausts. I'm not sure what you are looking for in making this post besides saying you think people that buy exhausts waste money.

For the record, I think your wing is goofy. I'm not considering making a post of why people buy wings considering their downforce potential is very low to nonexistent. If you want to talk about wasting money, there are much better things to talk about than exhausts...

So you save 40 lbs... 10 whp for $1000? I just don't see the light in that matter. Couldn't you just switch out the mufflers with less restrictive ones and get the same performance for around $200?

Oh and by the way do you even own an S2000 to rant on my factory spoiler? Last time I noticed, an S2000 was a rear-wheel drive car which could benefit from a little more downforce especially on the '03 and earlier years since they changed the spring rate ratio for the 04's and up.

I don't really give two shits what someone else thinks of my mod decisions and nor should anyone else.

Having said that, the only three performance mods I have made thus far were well researched and all improve performance.

T1R70R, 4.56, K&N Intake.

T1R 70r has dynod over 14whp.

Perhaps you wouldnt be happy with even 20whp gain.
Needless to say, my first exhaust was the HKS Hi Power. Power gained: 0hp. Weight saved: 15lbs. Cost: $900.

I now have the T1r 70r single. The HKS is STILL my favorite exhaust. Looked great, and sounded AMAZING.

I enjoy driving the car. A throaty, deep, louder note coming from the revs makes driving the car more enjoyable. Just my opinion.

If you think it's for shits and giggles, more power to ya!
I only have bolt-ons, and I bet Im putting down 230whp (dont ask for a dyno, Im scheduled to pull this Sprng). I'm happy with my money spent.

So, you're now including yourself in the "we"? "You" don't have to spend any money at all on an exhaust. As for the rest of us who do, why do you care? Don't alienate "us" from the beginning by flaming us for our modding decisions and then suddenly think you can become "we".
