Why does everyone want to race me?
#21
I find myself running with other sportscars. Not racing, just two or three cars running together down the road, one behind the other. The exhaust sound of two or three cars "running" is intoxicating.
Generally its with Porsches and Corvettes but occasionally it is with a BMWs and sometimes Miatas.
The only people who aren't content to "run" and feel like they have to race are the stickerized civics, neons and etc. Always driven by a younger person.

one time i was "running" with a 911 turbo when both of us happened upon a van on a 2 lane hwy. Van kept swerving side to side and the turbo floored and got away clean. I tried to do the same w/ a 4th gear downshift but i couldnt get around the van fast enough before he could block me off. I tried this 4 or five times and each time van dude would cut me off. On the final try, i thought i had it but then dude just kept coming and ran me into the shoulder! There are a lot of haters out there.

I really like "running". I think I'll start a thread about it.

Agree, WV's are the most notorious with Golf II GTi and 2nd gen. Jettas being the worst.

It's just ridiculous: everything from a big Lexus sedan with a blue-haired lady driver from nearby Leisure World to a beat-up old Toyota pickup with a redneck guy about 35 who wanted me to race him several laps around the one traffic circle we have in California (Long Beach). I have checked my license plates and they don't say, "Wanna Race?" I would say this will eventually pass, but I'm 56!
Actually, it detracts a bit from enjoying the car as I have to fight the instinct to go down a few gears and demonstrate what the car can do. Any suggestions on how to ignore such behavior will be appreciated.
The cars that can actually perform, from Porsche Carreras to Subaru WRX's to heavily modified Civics, are always polite.
I'm almost ready to put on a sign that says, "I race at Laguna Seca, not on the street."
