Why do Turbos/Superchargers cost so much?

I must have copy and pasted it wrong, i was giving an example of the rev hard turbo kit for our cars.


I think i also forgot to mention that you would need to have a wastgate, if you built it yourself.

I dont know the size/flow of the turbo you mentioned but if it costs $1200 then it is probably pretty big. I would think that our cars could best (safely) use a smaller turbo, because of the initially high compression of the motors.

Also most junkyards have turbos for about $40 and well known and respected turbo shops will do complete rebuilds (often throwing in pieces like housings for free) for less than $400, that gives you a brand new turbo for $450. I would assume that for out cars some of the smaller DSM turbos would be ideal, and there are plenty of those in junkyards.
