Default Why Comptech ?

Not supposed to be a funny question, but I was on their website and the retail on that kit is $6000 (aftercooled version). I have been looking around and I haven't seen too many people discounting Comptech down either. For that price it is $500 MORE expensive than the Ultimate Racing turbo kit, and it seems the UR turbo kit is getting more hp, and faster times. I know a turbo setup is more difficult to install but it would seem that it might be worth the extra hassle for the extra speed.

I could understand if the Comptech was within spitting distance of the Vortech kit, given the issues that the people seem to be experiencing with the Vortech kit recently, but I have seen Vortech kits for around $4000, or about 1/3 less than the Comptech. I really like Comptech, and I know they make top quality kits (as a matter of fact I got my brother some Comptech exhaust for his Accord) but a $2000 difference seems excessive to me.

Anybody know of a Comptech distributor that substantially discounts their kit ?

I've looked everywhere and the cheapest Comptech w/aftercooler kit that I found was at superchargersonline.com Their price is $5300.

You can check it out here:

Yeah I saw that too, but that is still not close to when they have the sale on the Vortech and it goes for about the low $4300 area. I think Vortech has their problems right now, but the $1000 price difference is too much for a similar kit.

Fanman, your comparison between the Comptech and the UR turbo has to be analyzed a bit more in depth. With the Comptech (and Vortech for that matter), you can bolt the thing on and drive down the road and not have to do anything else for the life of the car. With the turbo, you'll be tweaking it for weeks, maybe months:

That $500.00 you save with the turbo may translate into thousands more spent.

I understand that the SC's are easier to install than the turbo, absolutely. It does seem as though the turbo is getting more hp (see UR website they have the dyno #'s of their turbo kit vs. 2 "competitor" SC's) and better 1/4 mi. times. Ingeneral I usually see that SC kits are less expensive than turbo kits, that is more why I am asking, and also the fact that the Vortech unit (with the aftercooler) is so much less expensive. I really like Comptech (got my brother some Comptech exhaust and it was top quality), but can it really justify the price difference between it and the competition ?

I'm not really bashing UR, I almost got one myself. But it is my impression that the dyno you speak of was on a car that did not have the same components in the kit that they later sold. The first several kits they sold were living nightmares for some of their owners. Months and thousands of bucks later and some of them either were still at it or had given up. I just think you need to know all the details.
HP is a wonderful thing but there's more to it than that.

talking about superchargers, has anybody used a front mounted intercooler on the comptech or vortech superchargers setup instead of the small coolers the kit comes with?

Yes, you'll find a couple of examples here on the site. They tend to lose a bit of boost due to the volumes involved but this can be remedied with a smaller S/C pulley.
