Why am I a Guest / Owner now?
#23
I also signed up last week and as of last night I was still a guest...but now it shows I am a member I figure the update gets done in a batch process that is why the slight time lag between paying for the membership and having it show up.

site itself is great despite some recent slow performance/downtime.
i'd love lend my support, but there are some policies that deal with the for-sale forum and sponsorship that i'm not very clear about. i feel the director takes the side of the sponsors more than the members (or guests now). if i were to become a member.. even a gold member, i'd expect nothing but pure support from moderators and the director to the members when it comes down to problems with a site sponsor. i find the lack of member support from the director somewhat reflects some of the attitudes of some sponsors when a member/customer has an issue that isn't being resolved: "this stuff should be done offline. i've had a good experience with 'put-a-sponsors-name-here,' so obvious the problem is the member/customer not the sponsor." that kind of crap is what makes me hesitate to help the site's backend grow.
the way certain for sale threads or any threads dealing with someone having a problem with a sponsor are just locked is stupid. very stupid. it only shows us that the director is out to protect the sponsor to keep the flow of $ coming in. if the point of sponsors is to bring in cash regardless of the quality of the sponsor, then start a damn search engine. members here trust that sponsors have quality products represented by honest and courteous businesses. a good number of sponsors are great at what they do and they continue to please everyone; the few bad sponsors are being protected and shielded by hierachy.
again, with the number of sponsors we have, somehow the site isn't making enough money. im sure im alone in hesitating to contribute do to some of these types of issues. (a LARGE number of other sites with a much larger number of "guests" never ask their "guests" for money. whether it's a matter of them using their own personal finances to run the site or wisely accepting sponsors, other people are making it work.)

When I attempted to sign up, I found that I am required to supply my name and address. Why is this necessary? Will something be sent to my home? Assuming that there is some legitimate reason to collect this information, is anyone willing to guarantee that it will not be use as part of a commercial mailing list used by sponsors and possibly sold to anyone else willing to pay for it? Is there a way to 'opt-out'? My real name and street address is really nobody's business.
