That must be a NoCal thing! I got mine for 29.7+ttl in Dallas. When I was in Santa Cruz on business a month or so ago, I was messing with a dealer about a "new" 2005 Grand Prix White that was still on the lot with 75+ miles. He said that the demand of this vehicle was still such that the $3500 "market increase" was still valid, bring vehicle cost to $37K. He said that he could talk to his sales manager about waiving the markup, I told him not to worry about it and left laughing...

You'd have to be either an idiot or a rich idiot to pay a markup on this car. All you gotta do is glance at the internet, and you'll see hardtopguy's pricing. That, and the car is 6 years old now. If anyone knows anyone who paid higher than sticker recently, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell them...

I paid $29,600 a few days ago- out the door and without taxes. This was a dealer just outside of Atlanta.
www.fightingchance.com has some good info on new car buying. The 29.5K buy was a good one. Mine looked like the best I would get in this area after about 30 phone calls. Maybe I could have gotten a little lower, but it would have taken a few more days of negotions, etc. The supply of still in plastic or just out of plastic in Silverstone Metallic was limited, so I made the deal.

Yep, that was out the door without state taxes. Georgia is something like 7.5% and Alabama is in the 3% range...maybe 2.5%. I haven't gone to get tags yet.
I forget true invoice, but I think it is $29,800. Destination fee of $550 is for all cars, so that means $30,350 total to the dealership. Don't shoot me if I'm off a few hundred. Then, there is the dealer holdback of 3% from Honda back to the dealer. Think rebate or kickback. That was something like $997. The dealer most likely made around $300 profit off of my sale at $29,600.
I dealt with fleet managers, so there was no sales commission to pay the sales people. That saves the dealer some money too and gives more bargaining room.

My suggestion is to send requests to all of the on-line auto web sites. Just hunt around and you can find a least a dozen of them. These services basically just send this infomation to local dealers.
An S2000 is about the easiest car to shop for - the only option is the color.
I went this route in April and had several dealers fighting to give me prices well below MSRP. I ended up buying for $200 below *invoice*.
I also live in the San Jose area but ended up driving over to Santa Cruz but I had nearly as good deals from Stevens Creek, Los Gatos and Fremont.
Times change because when I bought my first S2000 back in March 2001 the best deal I could find was $3500 over MSRP and I had to drive to Petaluma to only get screwed that badly.
BTW - If you don't want to worry about spam from now until eternity set up a temporary e-mail account.
