It's a bit unfair to say someone is dumb for paying above MSRP during the first few months of the car's debut. At that point in time that may have been the fair market value IN THAT REGION. 20/20 hindsight would indicate waiting until supply catches up with demand, but there are some people who can't wait for one reason or another.

Luckily, I waited 4 years! Hehehe...

I live in Idaho. In Twin Falls and Boise, the dealers are still adding $3500 to $4500 to MSRP!?! I bought mine in Danvers, MA from Honda North 6 weeks ago and broke it in driving across the country. It was a nice way to get used to the car...

back in '02 I paid 31,000GBP for a new S2000 in the UK....which converts to around $55,000.

I owned it for 2 years and sold it for almost $40,000

Moved to the US and bought an '04 with full bodykit for $31,000.

One time I think I actually benefitted from the exchange rates!

April 19, 2000:

Paid $45K out the door (with tax and license).

Actual mark-up on the car was only $3800 but mark-up on dealer-installed accessories was brutal (Honda alarm, paint/fabric/leather protection, theft protection/serial number etching, extended warranty).

I did get the floormats for fee (whoopie!) and after complaining about their mark-ups and business practices, they gave me the aeroscreen for free.

i paid $41,752.00 in early nov 1999...you might notice posters with low s2ki user numbers and live in the bay area or southern calif tended to pay a bunch as there was not much of an option at the time...i don't regret it because i got to drive my car sooner [and now longer] than most other owners....

also...i find it bothersome when someone states"i got mine for msrp" or "i paid only $400 over sticker"....this means nothing to me....be a man and state the amount you actually paid for the car-"out the door "- tax, title, tips, bribes..whatever....the figure stated above was the amount on the check i wrote the dealer including all costs. [if you financed the car at "msrp" you might include the finance fees and interest charges as well]..let's hear some real numbers...

[got floormats and a tank of gas!!]
