SoCal dealers are just as bad as the NorCal dealers...
I was in Valencia this last weekend and stopped in at the Valencia Honda dealer and they were asking $8000 over MSRP, (silver over black)... why? The 'sales manager' said because they could. At least they had it in the showroom. They told me about a recent sale to a "friend" of the dealer, they got $12k over msrp from them. Glad I'm not one of their friends!
They also had a used '01 on the lot that they were asking $33k for (Ha!), with only 9k miles.
The story in Monrovia was a little different, and almost gave me reason to hope, but not too much...
They were willing to sell for MSRP, but 'required' ~$2000 in dealer installed options. Their basic package is all the extra body work. They were willing to negociate on the installed options, but wanted $4000 for the hard top. Ummm, nevermind, they can rip someone else off.
I've pretty much decided to buy on the East Coast this fall and transport the car back to NorCal.
I wonder if Honda cares that dealers are destroying any remaining customer loyality ? It's just as bad with the BMW dealers in NorCal too, but at least the % of markup isn't like is it with Honda/S2K. Think about this: for a new Z8, they ask ~15k markup, that's on a $120k car. That's about 10% markup. For a $32k car they are marking up $8k, that's 25%!!!! Think about it!

Hey Richard,
Call Anthony Armijo of Metro Honda in Montclair or Richard Enos of Norm Reeves Honda in Cerritos. Tell them you were referred by S2Ki.com and they should quote you MSRP right off the bat. After factoring in shipping costs and the cost of traveling should you want to buy the car in person, it's really not worth the hassle. Believe me, I looked into buying an S2000 for approx. $1,700 below MSRP in Chicago (two different dealerships)... but in the end it was a wash due to the aforementioned extra costs. Plus, I would have had to wait for an indefinite period of time for my color choice.

here in LA, the mark up is pretty much 10k everywhere. we got ours down to 34,5 with a rear spoiler/front lip. the chances of getting a dealer 2 sell MSRP in LA is extremely small imo...
