thats what the dealer said how much it was for sale.. because low supply high demand. and this is a show room car! not BRAND NEW? this dealer has gotta be kidding me..

MSRP tops, and not a dollar more. It's doable.
Think about this - for that kind of money, you could buy the car from a midwest dealer where below-MSRP prices are available, have the car shipped to your door, and still have several K for new wheels or some other mod of your choice.

I paid MSRP (32800) + 2000 dealer fee + 900 for LoJack. $35.7K plus NJ 6% sales tax, registration, licence plate, etc. $38K
It was on March 2002. My insurance went 30% cheaper with the LoJack.
SoCal, Florida prices are a lot cheaper.
NJ, NY, MD, PA, VA prices are higher.
S2000 still is a low supply car, with just 8000 cars for US this year.
Worth it? NO!
I am suffering every day since a BMW dealer called me 2 weeks after I got my S2000 and told me: "Regarding the 2002 Blue M Roadster you were interested, the final price is $43K"
With $5K I was going to get gorgeous 17" wheels and tires, 315HP that are faster that the 350HP on the Comptech S2000, a full 7 speaker sound system with amp and subs from the factory, traction control, big brakes, four tips exhaust, etc.
Do not pay that money for this car.

Yup. Paid $39K for mine, the Suzuka Blue.
Breaks down like this:
$895 for alarm
$895 for Perma Plate (now I know what a rip-off this is, but didn't know it at the time. Wish I'd known about this board before I bought the car)
$5000 markup because the dealer said there were only 6 blue ones in Northern California
I made some rookie mistakes, but my lessons have been learned. Bottom line is, I LOVE the car and glad I have it. Hey it's only money, right? In Marin County, dealers can get away with stuff like this, we have the one of the highest per capita income levels anywhere, so the fur starts flying fast when these puppies are available.

Hey man i feel your pain, i live in one of the most affluent counties in the US. SOme dealers can and do charge those premiums. I went to one dealer and the sales rep said "what do i have to do to get your business" (impressed me alot) I told her, first off, nothing over MSRP will keep me here, then i told her to give me a number. SHe said 32500, i told her lower. She repsonded with, my manager will not be happy, i said 32 flat, shes like deal. GOt my baby in 12 days. Mike
