How is the sound with the Comptech... say compared to the sound with the top of the stock intake box removed?

The comptech is pretty quiet, only a little louder than stock. Stock with lid off is louder. Or you could always do comptech with the lid off?

Hygiene Boy
Is that the weapon r intake on your car? Or is it the civic version of the intake? Everyone talks about heat soak affecting performance and causing the car to bog down. I know that there is thermal wrap available that can eliminate heatsoak. I remember reading about it awhile ago, I just can't remember the manufacturer. Does anyone know what you can wrap the intake tube with the stop heat from affecting the tube.
Will an intake (mosre specifically the Weapon R) be louder than simply removing the stock airbox cover?
I know alot of people don't like the Weapon R and call it ricey, but to each his own right! If it works and sounds good to me I could care less if it is ricey. I picked it up for 85$ shipped so I'm all good with my choice.
I have the stock airbox cover off right now and notice that although it sounds amazing in v-tec and especially in 2nd gear. I notice the car slowing significantly off the line. There is a definite dead spot at take off after the engine is hot!

I had the Weapon R (among many intakes) and it was a fine intake but needs
the direct path of air to make it really sing. Short rams (this is a short ram, not
a CAI) flow better than long tubers and thus usually have better throttle response.
The advantage to the AEM/INJEN/K&N TYPHOON is their placement of
the filter outside of the engine bay. Without a heat shield between the block
and the filter, heat soak will be a problem in the summer (as it is with all intakes).
You can diminish some of it with a heat shield from Nick (Rick's Accessories)
and a filter casing (provided seperately from Weapon R). I exchanged the foam
filter for a Blitz type and the sound was insane. Very nice. However, I got
a vented carbon fiber hood so the WR had to go. Nice intake but any short
ram (or engine bay intake) will need some modifications to work at best
with the S2000, the Comptech is no exception. You're not getting much air
into the box until you direct a path up there. Those running a Comptech intake
with a unmodified passenger brake duct and front grille in place have 1/2 an intake
compared to one modified appropriately. I know, I owned the Comptech as well.
In addition to the PRM, AEM V2 and a few others.

I agree with Russ as a have wrapped my intake with exhaust wrap and it seemed to make no difference. I do use a plastic heat shield from Autozone-$8 as you can see in the pic it covers the side of the filter facing the engine. I also have a funnel ram setup to feed cool air at speed to further cool the intake charge. Each intake has it's own advantages. I love the Weapon - R for it's looks, price, throttle response, ease of installation and filter maintenence and most of all the sweet sound at VTEC!!! When you live in Florida where it's hot and muggy all the time the engine will bog from time to time from a dead stop. I've experienced this in S2000's with Comptech, Weapon- R , AEM and stock. My remedy is a slight rev before taking off and no bog . I won't knock any other brand intake as I'm not brand loyal but I do really love my Weapon -R.

The comptech sounds pretty loud on my car compared to stock. Never took off the lid though.
