Who has had a Rick's 4.77 gearset installed w/o a problem?
Ok, here's my situation. I bought a Rick's 4.77 gear set and gave it to my mechanic to install. He was not able to get a good contact patch on the gears so on the advice from people on this board, we called Ganley Honda. They have only done 4 gear installs and they said they never had to change shims... except for the pinion washer. That strikes me as super odd because the helms manual explains the shimming process and that washer that Ganley has "changed out" does nothing to move the pinion gear at all.
My mechanic says that a shim of .141 would do the job but nobody makes a shim that large. The largest you can get is .136.
Has anybody successfully installed the Ricks 4.77? All of the people that say they have had the 4.77 successfully installed used the J's racing gears.
Argh! Oh, and when it came to reinstalling my stock gear, my mechanic had no problem and said that it acted like every other diff set up that he's ever done. Easy. It's just the 4.77 that is behaving strangely.

I drove 9hrs to have my gears installed by Ganley Honda. I have not had ANY problems. The car runs great. Ganley service is top notch, despite the fact Joe works for them
