Where's your gas gauge at 250miles?
Well, its on the dashboard. Sorry, I couldn't resist. With mixed driving, my gauge is usually about empty at 250 miles, but with any highway driving, it jumps up to 270 easily, and I've stretched over 300 with slightly spirited highway driving.

What worries me is that I didn't use to have the 1/4 tank at 250 miles before the "glitch" with my fuel gauge, so I don't know if I want to trust it and chance running out of gas with bars still on the gauge or before I can get to a gas station. Before the glitch, I'm quite sure I was close to no bars at 250 miles, definitely not a 1/4 tank left. So the huge change makes me suspicious of trusting the fuel gauge.
When you reach 250 miles, get underneath your car and tap on the fuel tank with the handle of a screwdriver. You will know if there is fuel in there or not. I just don't think that your fuel gauge would read 1/4 tank if the fuel tank was empty.

the trick is to put it into 6th at 36 mph (right when the engine stops lugging) and then continue accelerating gently

hmm i dunno, but once my gauge showed 3 bars and all of a sudden 0 bars within 3 minutes, no aggressive driving at all, it shut down on me. walked 2 the gas station and she was ready to go, i fill up at half tank now, no chances!

I get 180 miles on a tank. That is with 2 bars left; I never let it go below 2 bars.

I have to agre with revhi and the others. I can't get close to 250 miles on a tank. The most is about 210 and I'm looking for a filling station way before that. That's with no air conditioning. I think If I stayed on the freeway I might get 215- maybe? What is nice is that its almost two years old and burns no oil at all. I think in California our fuel is way to variable - even Chevron- to get the fuel economy the other 48 states get. That's just my opinion.
It's taken me almost as long to learn to drive the correctly, safely but within its sporting limits. I don't think I could drive another car. It's my everyday baby. I just wish the mileage was longer on a tank.

cruise with attitude

i had this happened to me once or twice. i was thinking bad fuel sender unit. 3 bars of gas shot up to 3/4 full. i was thinking it was the Shell gas, being they were notorious for high sulfur which destroys the sending unit. but im not sure if it was the gas or not.
the problem went away. i try to switch brands as much as possible.
i usually get 110miles on the half way so i suppose i could get aorudn 220 with 'mix' driving. alot more with all highway.
interesting note' when the gauge reads empty there really is about 2 gallons still in there.

I drove around today about 15 miles with No bars showing. When I filled up, it took 11.567 gallons. The owners manual says that the tank holds 13.2 gallons which would mean I had 1.7 gallons left. If I averaged, worst case scenario, say 16 mpg, with 1.7 gallons, I would be able to go another 27.2 miles. If you add this to the 15 miles I drove around with NO bars showing, that would mean I could drive 42.2 miles with no bars showing. I sures heck am not gonna drive that far with no bars showing 1.7 gallons left or not.

Lets see....this time I got 210.2 miles at fill up @ 11.567 = 18.172 mpg. Hey, a little bit better than last time eh

I was getting about 275-280 miles to a tank with a lot of highway driving... now I pulled a "RACER" and went into the canyons.

40 miles of road with the engine at or above the VTEC crossover point kills the gas mileage

I got 170 miles this tank... lol.

I usually fill up at 280 miles or so with a bar or 2 left. I average about 24 mpg. Combination of HWY/City.
