i can tell you with the VAFC2 i pulled on most stock S's, me at that time being stock, something to keep in mind is this unit sends modified signals to the ecu to make the ecu use different more agressive look-up tables for fuel maps, not a real air fuel tuning tool IMO, your ecu learns to manage the new tables and starts to eventually return itself back to the factory set parameters. to overcome this you should reset the ecu like once a month by pulling the backup ecu fuse in the drivers side footwell. I did this for about a year, car ran very good, fast, and clean, I would continue to do this if i didnt have the EMS, this is also a cheap alternative for tuning for mild supercharging.

ps. the center console(behind cup holder) is where i placed mine and i think its perfect, nice display and out of the way, i never accidently bumped a setting because of the design of the controller.

Can anyone tell me if mounting the VAFC in this location will render the little compartment useless?

I had a look at the position of that door and it looks like it will hit the back of the apexi unit when you go to open it...
